Spokeless Bicycle Wheel Drive System

This prototype design was a product of my final engineering project for my Mechanical Engineering 10 class at UCSB as a freshman.  We were to choose a current mechanical problem and use a CAD program (SolidWorks) to design a device that would solve this problem.

I set out to design a rear bicycle wheel drive system that would accomodate a wheel that has no spokes nor any form of a hub.  This focuses on the issue of air resistance from the bicycle wheel spokes that profesional cyclists encounter at high speeds.
